Mr. Krisda Utamote, President of Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT), stated that in 2023, global electric vehicle (EV) sales reached nearly 14 million units, accounting for 18% of all vehicles sold in the automotive industry. This represents an increase of over 35% from 2022. Most EV sales last year were concentrated in China, Europe, and the United States, while in Thailand, EVs made up about 12% of total vehicle sales, with a nearly 690% increase compared to 2022. A key positive factor for this growth rate is policy measures that not only incentivize but also plan to attract car manufacturers to invest in EV production plants in the country. This is a promising signal for the emerging EV market in Southeast Asia.
