Toyota to deploy ‘e-Palette’ EVs for Tokyo Olympics

The AI-powered Concept-i car will also be demonstrated for the 2020 games.

Toyota has announced plans to deploy its unique e-Palette multi-mode transportation pod at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Introduced at CES earlier this year, the e-Palette is a fully autonomous electric vehicle envisioned as a flexible platform that can be used for public transportation, parcel delivery, on-the-road e-commerce, ride sharing or other purposes.

An all-electric powertrain allows the e-Palette to have a low floor and cube shape. Toyota has proposed different lengths to support various applications.

The company says the vehicle will provide transportation services for athletes and affiliated gusts around the Athlete’s Village in Tokyo.

The Concept-i, a car that “recognizes drivers’ emotions … and can make conversation using AI,” will also be demonstrated at the games.
