Small yet mighty: say hello to the fully electric Volvo EX30

Volvo Cars Thailand today unveiled its first small premium fully electric SUV – Volvo EX30 – designed to have the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo car to date using cutting-edge technology and Scandinavian design to make people’s lives safer, more convenient, and more enjoyable.

Mr. Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car (Thailand) Limited said “The Volvo EX30 has huge potential for expanding the reach and performance of our brand in Thailand. It brings together our established strengths in electrification, safety and design without compromise in a well-designed, compact package. With an authentic approach to improving sustainability and lowering carbon emissions, the EX30 will have strong appeal to urban consumers looking for an efficient electric car that’s easy to live with. It also takes city safety where cars share space with pedestrians and cyclists like the busy streets of Bangkok to the next level. As Thailand is rapidly moving towards full electrification, we are excited to bring fresh thinking and a genuinely new proposition to the market for small SUVs together with our retail partners.”

As safe as you can expect a Volvo to be

Because it’s an electric car, Volvo naturally focused a lot on battery integrity. The chassis and safety cage are built with various forms of high-strength steel that offset the impact from a possible crash in an efficient way. The A and C pillars, as well as the roof, are also strengthened for an optimal structural design to further help protect the people inside the car. A far-side airbag on the inside of the driver’s seat designed to help reduce head and thorax injuries in the event of a side impact.

Volvo EX30 also offers an advanced suite of new active safety features. For example, it includes as standard a special safety feature for bikes that helps to prevent so-called ‘dooring’ accidents, by alerting you when you are about to open your door in front of a cyclist, scooter or runner. In addition to the hands-on detection in the steering wheel, the car also has a special sensor, running on powerful algorithms and located behind the steering wheel, that detects eye and face movements around 13 times per second. This way, the EX30 can try to understand if you’re distracted, drowsy or otherwise inattentive, even if you might not have realised it yourself.

It is also Volvo’s first car to include a new generation of the popular Park Pilot Assist feature which can handle all types of parking spaces including parallel, curved, perpendicular and diagonal fishbone-style.

Embodies the best of Scandinavian design

Volvo EX30 is not just designed for safety, it also aims to make your life more convenient, more relaxing and more enjoyable through cutting-edge tech and considerate Scandinavian design. The new small SUV has a stylish interior that embraces sustainable thinking with recycled and renewable materials such as denim and flax, as well as a variety of expressive colours and textures.

The centralisation theme inside the EX30 is represented by the single 12.3-inch centre screen, positioned in the centre of the dashboard, which contains all relevant information for a driver. Inspired by home audio design, the Harman Kardon soundbar that covers the entire width of the dashboard brings outstanding audio quality to your favourite music and podcasts.

Offering state-of-the-art infotainment with 5G capability, the EX30 comes with Google built-in including Google Assistant, Google Maps navigation and Google Play. It is also the first Volvo car to come with wireless Apple CarPlay functionality.

Contrasting its Onyx Black metallic roof, Volvo EX30 is available in 5 distinctive exterior colours, including Moss Yellow, Cloud Blue, Vapour Grey, Crystal White and Onyx Black under 3 different interior design expressions including Mist, Indigo and Breeze.

Battery tech that suits your needs

The Volvo EX30 offers two powertrain options including the Single Motor Extended Range variant with an NMC extended-range battery, giving a range of up to 480km1 between charges and a charging capacity of up to 153kW.

Finally, if performance is your priority, pick the variant in which Volvo pairs the NMC battery with an additional second. This all-wheel drive variant of the EX30 provides 315kW (428hp) and takes you from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds – it’s officially Volvo’s fastest-accelerating car ever. This variant also has a charging capacity of up to 153kW. That means you can charge your battery from 10 to 80 per cent in a little over 25 minutes2.

To support the best possible driving experience, Volvo has tuned the chassis of the EX30 to make the most of the car’s compact dimensions. Its low centre of gravity, as well as its relatively low and evenly distributed weight are complemented by ease of driving and nimbleness in the city and beyond.

“Everything that has made our SUVs so appreciated and even loved over the years, for example the distinctive design, the generous interior, the inspiring drive, the advanced safety, the legendary comfort, smart connectivity and liberating versatility, you will also find in our new Volvo EX30”, added Chris
